This was the last full day of my Baltimore trip. My aunt Laurel and I began the day early, going first to Mount Vernon, where both George and Bushrod Washington are buried. After this, we went to the Pope-Leighy House, a Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Usonian home in northern Virginia.
Then we went to the Marietta House Museum, which contains the grave of Gabriel Duvall. Just a small note, there ws a horrific traffic accident just by the entrance to Marietta House. If we had been coming from the other direction, we wouldn't have been able to get in.
Marietta House may be the ancestral manse of Gabriel Duvall, but these days it memrializes the enslaved families who worked in the home. A tour of the home shows the life that the Duvall family lived, but included short re-enactmrnt videos of the matriarch of one of the enslaved families. It was an excelent tour and an excellent way to preserve an old historic plantation. The Duvall grave is in the back of the main part of the property and is part of the tour.
